Islamic Banks Claim 3 Positions Among the Top 10 Fastest-Growing Private Sector Banks
The First Bank list of the fastest-growing private sector banks operating in Egypt in terms of retail deposits during the first nine months of 2025 revealed that Emirates NBD-Egypt ranked first, recording a growth rate of 49.5% over the period. Its retail deposit portfolio reached EGP 68.91 billion by the end of September 2025, compared to EGP 46.10 billion at the end of 2024.
Suez Canal Bank «SC Bank» ranked second, posting a growth rate of 48.6% during the first nine months of the year, with retail deposits amounting to EGP 31.39 billion by the end of September 2025, compared to EGP 21.13 billion at the end of 2024.
Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank Egypt «ADIB-Egypt» came in third, achieving a growth rate of 43% during the first nine months of 2025, as its retail deposit portfolio rose to EGP 124.15 billion by the end of September 2025, up from EGP 86.80 billion at the end of 2024.
The ranking highlighted the continued dominance of Commercial International Bank (CIB) as the largest private sector bank in terms of both absolute increase and portfolio size. CIB’s retail deposits reached EGP 613.58 billion by the end of September 2025, compared to EGP 537.33 billion at the end of 2024, reflecting a growth rate of 14.2% and an absolute increase of EGP 76.25 billion.
The First Bank list tracked total retail deposit portfolios at 20 private sector banks operating within the Egyptian banking system for which financial data were available during the first nine months of 2025. The data showed that 19 banks achieved positive growth rates, while one bank recorded a slight decline, according to each bank’s independently published financial statements.
It is worth noting that private sector banks are defined as banks in which private ownership exceeds 50% of total capital, according to data from Egypt’s Ministry of Public Business Sector.
The data also showed strong performance by Arab banking groups operating in Egypt, which dominated 7 positions among the top 10 fastest-growing private sector banks in retail deposits during the first nine months of 2025. These banks were: Emirates NBD, Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank, Kuwait Finance House, Al Ahli Bank of Kuwait, Al Baraka Bank, National Bank of Kuwait, and First Abu Dhabi Bank, while other banks were absent from the top ten.
At the level of Islamic banks, they secured three positions among the top 10 fastest-growing private sector banks in retail deposits during the first nine months of 2025. Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank Egypt ranked third with a growth rate of 43%, while Kuwait Finance House and Al Baraka Bank ranked sixth and eighth, recording growth rates of 36.6% and 26.6%, respectively.
