Listed Banks Capture Half of the Top 10 Most Retail-Focused Private Banks

The «First Bank» ranking of the most retail-focused private banks operating in Egypt as of September 2025 revealed that the Egyptian Gulf Bank «EGBANK» topped the list with a retail financing concentration ratio of 48.91%. The bank’s total customer loans reached EGP 63.70 bn by the end of September 2025, while its retail loan portfolio amounted to EGP 31.16 bn during the same period.

«AlexBank» ranked second, with 44.80% of its total customer financing concentrated in retail loans, amounting to EGP 36.30 bn, while the bank’s total customer loan portfolio recorded EGP 81.03 bn as of September 2025.

«BANK NXT» came in third place with a concentration ratio of 34.21%, after its total customer loans reached EGP 44.78 bn, while its retail loan portfolio stood at EGP 15.32 bn by the end of September 2025.

The ranking monitors the lending portfolio structures of 21 private banks operating in the Egyptian banking sector for which financial data were available for the analysis period, particularly in terms of retail financing. The index relies on the ratio (Retail Financing / Total Customer Financing) to indicate the degree of concentration of a bank’s loan portfolio in retail lending.

Data also showed strong performance by foreign banking groups operating in Egypt, which captured 7 positions among the top 10 most retail-focused private banks as of September 2025, namely: «AlexBank», «HSBC», «ABK – Egypt», «ADIB – Egypt», «Crédit Agricole – Egypt», «Al Baraka – Egypt», and «Emirates NBD – Egypt», while other banking groups were absent from the top ten positions.

Meanwhile, banks listed on the Egyptian Exchange captured half of the top 10 positions among the most retail-focused private banks as of September 2025, represented by: «EGBANK», «saib», «Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank – Egypt «ADIB»», «Crédit Agricole – Egypt», and «Al Baraka – Egypt».

At the level of Islamic banks, both «Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank – Egypt «ADIB»» and «Al Baraka – Egypt» appeared among the top 10 most retail-focused private banks as of September 2025.

It is worth noting that private sector banks are defined as banks in which private ownership exceeds 50% of total capital, according to data from the Egyptian Ministry of Public Business Sector.
