EGP index decreased against a basket of major currencies to 36.202 points at today's trading
The Egyptian Pound Index weakened against major currencies at the close of trading on Wednesday, June 3, falling to 36.202 points from 36.217 points recorded at the end of Tuesday’s session.
The decline in the index was primarily driven by the pound’s depreciation against the U.S. dollar, Japanese yen, UAE dirham, Saudi riyal, and Chinese yuan, despite gaining ground against the euro and the British pound during the day’s trading.
The average selling price of the U.S. dollar rose to EGP 51.99 from EGP 51.91, while the average buying price increased to EGP 51.89 from EGP 51.81 by the close of trading.
The Chinese yuan also strengthened slightly against the Egyptian pound, with the average selling price remaining at EGP 7.68, while the average buying price edged up to EGP 7.67 from EGP 7.66.
Meanwhile, the Japanese yen advanced, with the average selling price increasing to EGP 32.53 from EGP 32.50, while the average buying price rose to EGP 32.46 from EGP 32.43.
The UAE dirham recorded gains as well, with the average selling price climbing to EGP 14.15 from EGP 14.14 and the average buying price rising to EGP 14.13 from EGP 14.11.
Similarly, the Saudi riyal appreciated against the Egyptian pound, with the average selling price increasing to EGP 13.85 from EGP 13.83 and the average buying price edging up to EGP 13.82 from EGP 13.81.
In contrast, the euro declined against the pound, with the average selling price falling to EGP 60.37 from EGP 60.49, while the average buying price dropped to EGP 60.24 from EGP 60.36.
The British pound also weakened, as the average selling price decreased to EGP 69.90 from EGP 69.96, while the average buying price fell to EGP 69.75 from EGP 69.80 by the end of trading.
