«First Bank’s ranking» tracking the development of credit card balances across banks operating in the Egyptian banking sector during Q1 of 2026 revealed that Housing & Development Bank topped the list after its credit card balances increased by 30.8%, reaching 1.001 EGP bn at the end of March 2026, compared to 765.35 EGP mn at the end of 2025.
Suez Canal Bank ranked second, with its credit card balances rising by 20.3% during Q1 of 2026 to 243.88 EGP mn, compared to 202.67 EGP mn at the end of 2025.
Meanwhile, «NXT» secured third place after recording a 18.5% quarter-on-quarter increase in credit card balances, reaching 1.22 EGP bn at the end of March 2026, compared to 1.03 EGP bn at the end of 2025.
The First Bank ranking covered 24 banks operating in the Egyptian banking sector for which financial data were available. The results showed that 21 banks achieved positive growth rates in credit card balances, while three banks recorded declines during Q1 of 2026.
The data also reflected a relative degree of stability among the fastest-growing banks, with seven banks maintaining their presence within the top 10 rankings in both Q1 2026 and 2025. These banks were Housing & Development Bank, Suez Canal Bank, BANK NXT, Kuwait Finance House – Egypt, Al Baraka Bank Egypt, «Emirates NBD» and «EGBANK».
On the other hand, the top 10 ranking welcomed three new entrants. EBank advanced to fifth place from fourteenth in the 2025 ranking, while Commercial International Bank «CIB» climbed to ninth place from twenty-second. In addition, Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank – Egypt «ADCB» joined the top 10 after securing tenth place, compared to sixteenth in the 2025 ranking.
At the sector level, credit card balances at the 24 surveyed banks increased by 4.4% during Q1 of 2026, reaching 54.03 EGP bn by the end of March, compared to 51.73 EGP bn at the end of 2025. Furthermore, 14 banks recorded growth rates exceeding the sector average.
Foreign banks captured four positions within the top 10 ranking, out of the 14 foreign banks included in the survey. These were Kuwait Finance House – Egypt, Al Baraka Bank Egypt, Emirates NBD Egypt and ADCB Egypt.
