QNB Egypt Tops the Ranking, Accounting for More Than a Quarter of the Growth in Retail Deposits
Gulf banks dominated the ranking, securing 4 of the top five positions out of the 8 Gulf banks included in the index
Retail deposits at 12 foreign banks reached 1.10 EGP tn, increasing by 678.17 EGP bn over the past 5 years

The First Bank Retail Depositor Confidence Index, which tracks the performance of foreign banks operating in the Egyptian banking sector over the past five years, ranked QNB Egypt first after its retail deposit portfolio increased by 176.74 EGP bn, reaching 287.61 EGP bn at the end of 2025, compared with 110.87 EGP bn at the end of 2020. The bank accounted for 26% of the total increase in retail deposits recorded by foreign banks during the period under review.
ADIB Egypt ranked second after its retail deposit portfolio increased by 95.23 EGP bn over the past five years, reaching 124.57 EGP bn at the end of 2025, compared with 29.34 EGP bn at the end of 2020.
HSBC secured third place with an increase of 71.00 EGP bn in retail deposits over the same period, bringing its retail deposit portfolio to 122.77 EGP bn at the end of 2025, up from 51.77 EGP bn at the end of 2020.
The First Bank Retail Depositor Confidence Index tracked the absolute increase in retail deposit portfolios across 12 foreign banks for which financial statements were available over the past 5 years.
Foreign banks recorded strong growth in retail deposits during the period, with total retail deposits reaching approximately 1.10 EGP tn at the end of 2025, compared with 425.09 EGP bn at the end of 2020, representing an increase of 678.17 EGP bn over 5 years.
The data also showed that all banks included in the analysis succeeded in expanding their retail deposit portfolios during the review period.
The First Bank Retail Depositor Confidence Index was developed to measure household savers' confidence and their willingness to place deposits and certificates with Egyptian banks over a given period. The index is based on the absolute increase in retail deposit balances, with the bank attracting the largest volume of new retail deposits over the past 5 years ranking first.
Gulf banks secured four positions among the top five foreign banks on the First Bank Retail Depositor Confidence Index, namely QNB Egypt, ADIB Egypt, NBK Egypt and Emirates NBD Egypt.
Meanwhile, banks listed on the Egyptian Exchange captured two of the top five positions, with QNB Egypt ranking first and ADIB Egypt ranking second.
