Four Gulf banks operating in the Egyptian market recorded a notable decline in net profits during the first quarter of 2026

According to the «First Bank» ranking tracking the development of net profits among Gulf banks operating in Egypt’s banking sector during Q1 2026, ABK Egypt ranked first. «ABK – Egypt» posted a 100% growth rate, reporting net profits of EGP 2.49 bn in the first quarter of 2026, compared with EGP 1.25 bn in the corresponding period of 2025.

Kuwait Finance House – Egypt secured second place, with net profits increasing by 87.4% to EGP 1.76 bn in Q1 2026, compared with EGP 937.78 mn in the same period of 2025.

FABMISR ranked third, posting a 68.2% increase in net profits to EGP 6.48 bn during the first quarter of 2026, compared with EGP 3.85 bn in the corresponding period of 2025.

The «First Bank» ranking covered 10 Gulf banks operating in Egypt for which financial statements were available. Six banks recorded positive profit growth, while four reported a noticeable decline during the first quarter of 2026.

Overall, the combined net profits of the 10 Gulf banks operating in Egypt reached EGP 29.37 bn during Q1 2026, representing annual growth of 31.02%, compared with EGP 22.41 bn in the same period of 2025.

«QNB» retained its position as the most profitable Gulf bank, reporting EGP 8.86 bn in net profits during the first quarter of the year, while «FABMISR» ranked second with net profits of EGP 6.48 bn over the same period.

Islamic banks recorded combined net profits of EGP 9.09 bn, representing growth of 59.1% during Q1 2026, compared with a 50.1% decline in the corresponding period of 2025, indicating a relative acceleration in their performance.

Meanwhile, four Gulf banks recorded a significant decline in net profits during the first quarter of 2026: «National Bank of Kuwait (NBK)», «Al Baraka Bank», «ADCB», and «ABC».

It should be noted that all figures and growth rates presented in the above analysis are based on each bank’s standalone financial statements as of the end of March 2026.
