Suez Canal Bank topped First Bank’s ranking of the fastest-growing banks operating in Egypt by direct corporate loans over the past three years, from end-2022 to end-2025, recording the highest compound annual growth rate (CAGR) over the period amid a notable divergence in growth rates across the sector.
Suez Canal Bank’s direct corporate loan portfolio recorded a CAGR of 85.6 per cent over the past three years, rising to EGP 42.77bn at end-2025 from EGP 6.69bn at end-2022, reflecting a strong expansion in loans extended to the corporate segment.
Banque du Caire ranked second, with its direct corporate loan portfolio recording a CAGR of 52 per cent. The portfolio rose to EGP 60.25bn at end-2025 from EGP 17.15bn at end-2022, supported by a substantial increase in loans extended to the corporate segment over the three-year period.
Housing and Development Bank (HDB) ranked third, recording a CAGR of 51 per cent over the past three years. Its direct corporate loan portfolio increased to EGP 21.09bn at end-2025 from EGP 6.12bn at end-2022, placing it among the banks that recorded the strongest expansion in this segment.
First Bank’s ranking tracked the development of direct corporate loan portfolios at 25 banks operating in Egypt’s banking sector for which the required financial data were available between 2022 and 2025.
The results showed that all banks recorded positive compound annual growth rates over the period, reflecting a broad trend towards expanding direct loans to corporates.
At the sector level, the top nine banks in the ranking exceeded the banking sector’s average CAGR of 34.2 per cent over the past three years, while the remaining banks recorded growth rates below the sector average over the same period.
Among Islamic banks, representation in the top 10 fastest-growing banks by direct corporate loans was limited to Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank – Egypt (ADIB-Egypt), which ranked eighth among the four Islamic banks included in the ranking, highlighting the limited presence among the top 10.
