Only four banks retain top-10 positions between 2025 and June 2026
CIB retains its lead as the largest private-sector bank by customer loans at end-June 2026, with QNB Egypt second
Islamic banks have limited representation, with just one of four securing a place in the top 10
The United Bank topped First Bank’s ranking tracking customer loan portfolio growth among banks operating in Egypt during the first half of 2026, climbing from 13th place in 2025 to lead the ranking.
The rise was supported by 29.6 per cent growth in the bank’s customer loan portfolio in just six months, reaching EGP 49.63bn at end-June 2026, compared with EGP 38.28bn at end-2025.
Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank – Egypt (ADIB-Egypt) ranked second after its customer loan portfolio rose by around 28 per cent in the first six months of 2026 to EGP 198.23bn at end-June, compared with EGP 154.87bn at end-2025.
This made it the only Islamic bank among the top 10 out of the four Islamic banks included in the ranking, supported by the strong growth recorded during the period.
Housing and Development Bank (HDB) ranked third among the fastest-growing banks by customer loans, after its portfolio increased by around 23.9 per cent on a half-year basis to EGP 81.44bn at end-June 2026, compared with EGP 65.72bn at end-2025.
First Bank’s ranking tracked customer loan portfolios at 25 banks operating in Egypt’s banking sector for which financial data were available. It showed that 24 banks recorded positive growth, while one bank posted a notable decline during the first ha
lf of 2026.
Only four banks retained their presence among the top 10 in both the June 2026 and 2025 rankings. ADIB-Egypt climbed from third place in 2025 to second in the first half of 2026, while BANK NXT ranked fifth in the first-half 2026 ranking.
Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank – Egypt (ADCB Egypt), meanwhile, slipped from seventh place in the 2025 ranking to eighth in the first half of 2026, while Commercial International Bank – Egypt (CIB) ranked ninth in the first-half 2026 ranking.
CIB retained its position as the largest private-sector bank by customer loans, with a portfolio of EGP 631.34bn at end-June 2026, while QNB Egypt ranked second with customer loans of EGP 518.91bn at end-June.
