HDB, The United Bank and ADIB-Egypt lead corporate loan growth in H1 2026
HDB surges from 15th place in 2025 to top the ranking in just six months
Corporate loans across 25 banks reach EGP 8.28tn, up 13.7% in H1 2026
Islamic banks secure just one top-10 position among the four included in the ranking
Housing and Development Bank (HDB) topped First Bank’s ranking of the fastest-growing banks operating in Egypt by corporate loans, including small loans for economic activities, reflecting an acceleration in corporate lending activity.
HDB’s corporate loan portfolio grew 36.5 per cent during the first half of 2026 to EGP 44.75bn at end-June, from EGP 32.78bn at end-2025.
The United Bank secured second place after its corporate loan portfolio expanded 34 per cent during the first half of 2026 to EGP 38.66bn at end-June, compared with EGP 28.85bn at end-2025.
Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank – Egypt (ADIB-Egypt) ranked third, with its corporate loan portfolio rising 31.9 per cent during the first half of 2026 to EGP 140.54bn at end-June, from EGP 106.54bn at end-2025.
ADIB-Egypt was the only Islamic bank among the top 10, out of the four included in the ranking, highlighting the limited representation of Islamic banks.
First Bank’s ranking tracked changes in corporate loan portfolios, including small loans for economic activities, across 25 banks operating in Egypt for which financial data were available. Of these, 24 recorded positive growth during the first half of 2026, while one reported a decline.
Combined corporate loans across the 25 banks reached approximately EGP 8.28tn at end-June 2026, compared with EGP 7.28tn at end-2025, representing growth of 13.7 per cent during the first half of the year.
A comparison of the June 2026 and 2025 rankings revealed substantial changes among the leading banks, with only five retaining their places among the top 10 in both periods, although their positions shifted.
The United Bank climbed from ninth place in 2025 to second at end-June 2026, while ADIB-Egypt advanced from fourth to third. Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank – Egypt (ADCB Egypt) also moved up, from seventh to fourth.
By contrast, Commercial International Bank – Egypt (CIB) slipped from third place in 2025 to eighth in H1 2026, while BANK NXT fell from second to 10th.
Five new banks entered the top 10, replacing five institutions that had featured in the 2025 ranking. HDB recorded the largest advance, climbing from 15th place to the top of the ranking.
National Bank of Kuwait – Egypt (NBK-Egypt) rose from 19th to fifth place, while Emirates NBD Egypt climbed from 22nd to sixth. Arab African International Bank (AAIB) advanced from 14th to seventh, and Attijariwafa bank Egypt moved up from 16th to ninth.
