NBE dominates Corporate Credit Competitiveness Index, accounting for 63% of total corporate loan growth over three years
Four Gulf banks rank among the top 10, underscoring their strong presence in Egypt’s banking sector
Corporate loans across 26 banks reach EGP 8.52tn at end-2025, up EGP 5.30tn in three years
National Bank of Egypt (NBE) topped First Bank’s Corporate Credit Competitiveness Index over the past three years, recording the largest increase in its corporate loan portfolio during the period under review.
NBE's portfolio expanded by approximately EGP 3.32tn, accounting for nearly 63 per cent of the total increase recorded by the banks included in the ranking.
Banque Misr ranked second after adding approximately EGP 745.03bn to its corporate loan portfolio over the past three years, equivalent to around 14 per cent of the total increase recorded by the banks covered by the analysis.
Commercial International Bank – Egypt (CIB) secured third place, with its corporate loan portfolio increasing by approximately EGP 283.78bn over the period, reaching EGP 1.36tn at end-2025, compared with around EGP 615.50bn at end-2022.
First Bank’s Corporate Credit Competitiveness Index measures banks’ ability to expand corporate lending, ranking institutions by the absolute increase in outstanding corporate loans over the period under review and capturing the scale of their expansion in the segment.
The index tracked movements in corporate loan portfolios across 26 banks operating in Egypt’s banking sector, with all banks included in the ranking recording increases over the past three years.
Gulf banks had a strong presence among the top 10, securing four places out of the eight Gulf banks operating in Egypt that were included in the ranking.
The four Gulf banks in the top 10 were QNB Egypt, Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank – Egypt (ADIB-Egypt), National Bank of Kuwait – Egypt (NBK-Egypt) and Kuwait Finance House – Egypt (KFH-Egypt).
Across the sector, corporate loans at the 26 banks rose by approximately EGP 5.30tn over three years, reaching EGP 8.52tn at end-2025 from EGP 3.22tn at end-2022.
