Emirates NBD’s credit card team delivers strong three-year performance
Emirates NBD Egypt’s credit card balances surged 352.3 per cent over the past three years to EGP 2.52bn at end-June 2026, from EGP 556.49mn at end-2022, an increase of EGP 1.96bn.
The expansion extended beyond portfolio growth, strengthening Emirates NBD Egypt’s market position as the bank advanced from ninth place at end-2022 to seventh at end-June 2026.
The shift becomes more significant when viewed against the weight of credit cards within the bank’s retail loan portfolio. Their share rose to 9.89 per cent at end-June 2026 from 4.45 per cent at end-2022.
This means the increase in credit card balances was not simply a by-product of broader retail banking expansion. Credit cards grew at a pace that materially increased their share of the overall retail portfolio.
The strength of that performance becomes clearer when compared with the retail loan portfolio as a whole. Retail loans rose 103.6 per cent over the period, reaching EGP 25.44bn at end-June 2026 from EGP 12.50bn at end-2022, while credit card balances surged 352.3 per cent.
The wide gap between the two growth rates shows that credit cards expanded far faster than the overall retail portfolio, directly increasing their relative weight within it.
The transformation in the credit card business therefore went beyond balance growth. It also reshaped the composition of the retail loan portfolio, with cards gaining a larger share while the bank improved its market ranking over the past three years.
The performance consequently reflects the credit card team’s success in expanding the business and strengthening its position within Emirates NBD Egypt’s retail banking portfolio.
