ABK-Egypt tops Kuwaiti banks in Egypt with EGP 113bn in corporate deposits
Al Ahli Bank of Kuwait – Egypt (ABK-Egypt) recorded strong growth in corporate deposits during the first half of 2026, with balances rising 17 per cent to approximately EGP 113.1bn at end-June, from EGP 96.3bn at end-2025, an increase of EGP 16.7bn.
The increase reinforced ABK-Egypt’s position as the largest Kuwaiti bank operating in Egypt by corporate deposits, while lifting it to 13th place among banks operating in the Egyptian market, from 15th at end-2025.
Among its Kuwaiti peers, Kuwait Finance House – Egypt (KFH-Egypt) recorded corporate deposits of approximately EGP 101.7bn at end-June 2026, down 2 per cent from EGP 103.4bn at end-2025.
National Bank of Kuwait – Egypt (NBK-Egypt), meanwhile, increased its corporate deposit balance by 15 per cent to around EGP 99.9bn, from EGP 87.3bn.
ABK-Egypt therefore recorded both the largest corporate deposit balance and the fastest growth rate among the three Kuwaiti banks during the period under review.
The EGP 16.7bn increase over six months points to growing confidence among companies and institutions in the bank, as well as its ability to meet a broad range of banking and financing needs.
It also reflects the strength of ABK-Egypt’s relationships with corporate clients and its ability to build long-term partnerships based on trust and integrated banking solutions, reinforcing its position as a reliable banking partner for the business sector.
At the market level, the expansion in corporate deposits strengthened ABK-Egypt’s competitive position, with the bank advancing two places in the ranking by this measure to 13th at end-June 2026 from 15th at end-2025.
A comparison of the three Kuwaiti banks highlights different trajectories during H1 2026. ABK-Egypt added approximately EGP 16.7bn in corporate deposits, compared with an increase of around EGP 12.7bn at NBK-Egypt, while KFH-Egypt recorded a decline of approximately EGP 1.7bn.
This reflects a stronger improvement at ABK-Egypt in both the size of its corporate deposit base and its growth rate relative to the other Kuwaiti banks.
Corporate deposits are closely linked to liquidity conditions among companies and economic entities and are also influenced by institutions’ decisions on cash management and the allocation of liquidity across banks.
Movements in this segment therefore provide an important indicator of changes in the deposit base, while recognising that shifts in balances can reflect several factors and cannot be attributed to economic activity alone.
The performance also reflects ABK-Egypt’s continued efforts to develop and provide integrated and innovative financial and banking services, reinforcing its position in the Egyptian banking market.
In this context, the bank continues to pursue its growth and expansion strategy by increasing its corporate financing portfolio and broadening its activities across different sectors of the economy.
The corporate banking segment remains focused on delivering balanced and sustainable growth through measured expansion in banking activities while maintaining financing portfolio quality, strengthening its ability to respond to economic developments and achieve its future targets.
