EGBANK, ADIB lead asset growth on a constant currency basis in H1 2026
EGBANK maintains its lead in asset growth before and on a constant currency basis in H1 2026
ADIB and Emirates NBD advance six places on a constant currency basis, while EGBANK retains the lead
Egyptian Gulf Bank (EGBANK) retained its leading position in asset growth, both before and after adjusting for exchange rate effects, topping First Bank’s ranking of the fastest-growing banks operating in Egypt by assets on a constant currency basis in H1 2026, with a growth rate of 31.48 per cent.
Its assets rose to EGP 173.83 bn at the end of June 2026, compared to EGP 132.21 bn at the end of 2025, an increase of EGP 41.62 bn.
EGBANK’s leading position is particularly significant when comparing its ranking before and on a constant currency basis.
The bank retained first place in both cases, despite its asset growth rate declining from 43.93 per cent before adjustment to 31.48 per cent on a constant currency basis.
This indicates that its leading position was not solely driven by exchange rate movements, as it remained at the top of the ranking even after adjusting for their impact under the methodology adopted in the analysis.
Meanwhile, adjusting for exchange rate effects significantly reshaped the ranking of Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank – Egypt (ADIB– Egypt), which jumped from eighth place before adjustment to second place on a constant currency basis, advancing six positions.
Its asset growth rate increased from 15.96 per cent to 18.63 per cent.
Its assets on a constant currency basis reached EGP 399.53 bn at the end of June 2026, compared to EGP 336.79 bn at the end of 2025, an increase of EGP 62.73 bn.
This was the largest absolute increase in assets among the three leading banks after adjustment.
This improvement highlights the difference between rankings based on asset growth before and on a constant currency basis. While ADIB ranked eighth based on its unadjusted growth rate, it advanced to second place after adjusting for exchange rate effects.
Similarly, Emirates NBD – Egypt advanced six positions, moving from ninth place before adjustment to third place on a constant currency basis, as its asset growth rate increased from 14.64 per cent to 18.43 per cent.
Its assets on a constant currency basis reached EGP 243.31 bn at the end of June 2026, compared to EGP 205.45 bn at the end of 2025, an increase of approximately EGP 37.87 bn.
The comparison between the two banks highlights how adjusting for exchange rate effects reshaped the competition for second and third place.
ADIB advanced from eighth to second place, while Emirates NBD moved from ninth to third. Meanwhile, EGBANK maintained its leading position in both rankings.
The ranking reflects the underlying growth in the assets of banks operating in the Egyptian banking sector during the first six months of 2026.
It is worth noting that the ranking of the fastest-growing banks by assets on a constant currency basis covered 23 banks operating in Egypt for which the required financial data were available.
All figures and growth rates mentioned in the above analysis are based on the standalone financial statements disclosed by each bank as of June 2026.
