Risk management team’s outstanding performance propels Faisal Islamic Bank to the top of asset quality rankings

Average asset quality across 25 banks stood at 98.68 per cent at the end of June 2026

Five foreign banks made the top 10 out of 12 foreign banks in the sector

Faisal Islamic Bank of Egypt topped First Bank’s ranking of banks operating in Egypt by asset portfolio quality ratio at end-June 2026, recording a ratio of 99.72 per cent.

Arab African International Bank (AAIB) followed in second place by asset quality ratio at 99.68 per cent, at the end of June 2026.

while National Bank of Kuwait – Egypt (NBK – Egypt) took third place by asset quality at 99.64 per cent, at the end of June 2026.

The ranking covers 25 banks for which financial data was available over the period analysed, based on each bank's published standalone financial statements for the end of June 2026.

The asset quality ratio is calculated by deducting Stage 3 loans as a share of a bank's total assets. It reflects the size of non-performing loans relative to the balance sheet as a whole, and therefore their potential impact on the bank's financial position.

Average asset quality across the 25 banks came in at 98.68 per cent, with 13 banks performing above that level.

Nine of the top ten banks for asset quality also ranked among the top ten for loan portfolio quality.

Faisal Islamic Bank was the exception, entering the top ten in place of Bank NXT, which ranked thirteenth on that measure.

Foreign banks claimed half of the top ten places: National Bank of Kuwait, Attijariwafa Bank, Al Ahli Bank of Kuwait – Egypt, Crédit Agricole and Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank.

Islamic banks secured two places in the top ten, with Faisal Islamic Bank in first place and Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank – Egypt in tenth.

All figures cited above are based on each bank's published standalone financial statements for the end of June 2026.
