Dalia El Baz, First Woman To Serve As NBE Vice Chairman

All countries around the world celebrate, on March 8, International Women's Day,  to signify general respect and appreciation for women and their courage in playing exceptional roles in the history of their countries, in the economic, political, and other fields.

FirstBank sheds light on the most prominent Egyptian female bankers who play a prominent role in the Egyptian banking sector, Dalia El Baz, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of National Bank of Egypt.

El Baz is considered one of the most prominent bankers the banking sector, which made Forbes Magazine Middle East to choose her in the Forbes list of the 100 most powerful women in the field of finance and business in the Middle East, for 2023, the magazine has previously included her in the list of the most influential women in the Middle East for 2018.

El Baz has a long banking experience for more than 28 years, her beginnings go back to Barclays Bank Egypt, in 1995 working in credit marketing and many positions up to the head of operational risk management group and internal control sector, she was also a member of the Executive Committee and Risk and Control Committee.

Her successful career paved the way for her to work in the largest bank in the Egyptian market, which is the National Bank of Egypt, to occupy the position of Head of the Operational Risks Group in 2008, to contribute to development plan and activate role of the Operational Risks Group, putting emergency plan for business continuity for the first time in the bank, as well as finding  alternative centers for business.

Also She was responsible for banking IT services, she supervised the development of banking operations, including loan departments, card issuance, account opening, trade financing and treasury.

She also worked on applying the latest software of the bank, and in 2016, she took over the implementation of an integrated strategy for the bank's information technology, which was considered at the time the largest application of information technology in the banking sector in Egypt, so the bank obtained a number of accredited certificates.

El Baz’s achievements continued with NBE until a decision was issued in September 2017, announcing her as Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of NBE and a member of Executive Committee, becoming the first woman to hold this position, and she was able to achieve many successes which made Dr. Mostafa Madbouly. Prime Minister, to renew confidence in her in September 2020.

Her responsibilities extend to supervision risk sectors, banking operations and IT, working on managing bank modernization projects, following up on standard operating procedures, working on  implementing and following up on credit and inquiries operations, and her tasks also include working with the Administrative Support and CSR.
