Hassan Abdullah chairs the meetings of AFDB Board of Governors to discuss economic development enhancing in African countries

Egypt chairs the meetings of the Board of Governors of African Development Bank Group, hosted by Sharm El-Sheikh from May 22-26, 2023, to discuss economic development enhancing and social progress in African countries, this asserted the Egyptian state's continued pivotal and pioneering role at the continental and regional levels.

Participation of representatives of 81 countries and senior government officials in the meetings of African Development Bank this year, the meetings of the Board of Governors of the bank Group for 2023, which are chaired by the Governor of Central Bank of Egypt, Hassan Abdullah, are of particular importance, due to the attendance of about 3,650 participants, representing 81 countries.

With the participation of central bank governors, ministers of finance, planning and investment, and senior government officials, including 54 African countries and 27 non-African countries.

America, Japan and Germany are at the head of 27 non-African countries participating in the meetings, in addition to the participation of the G7 countries, namely: America, France, Britain, Italy, Canada, Japan and Germany.

Egypt assumed the presidency of the Board of Governors of the African Development Bank Group within a year, which is the period from May 2022 to this May.

African Development Bank Group consists of African Development Bank, African Development Fund, and Nigeria trust Fund.

African Development Bank is a multilateral development financing institution, established in 1964 to contribute to achieving 5 strategic goals: lighting Africa and supplying it with energy, ensuring that food reaches the neediest areas on the continent, promoting industrialization in African countries, achieving integration between the countries of the continent, and improving the quality of food and life in Africa.

Egypt is one of the largest member states of African Development Bank Group, as it ranked second at the level of regional countries contributing to the bank’s capital after Nigeria, and ranked third at the level of all contributing countries (regional and non-regional) after Nigeria and United States, with a contribution of about 6 % of total contributions by the end of December 2022.
