CBE: Domestic liquidity grows by 11.42%, records EGP 8.248 tn, during H1-2023

The latest CBE’s data revealed an increase in domestic liquidity in the Egyptian banking sector by a growth rate of 11.42% during the first Half of the current year, to record EGP 8.248 tn at the end of June 2023, compared to EGP 7.402 tn at the end of December 2022, and the value of the increase was EGP 845.450 bn.
Domestic liquidity consists of cash supply and near money, under the cash supply; cash circulating outside the banking system and current deposits in local currency, while near money includes non-current deposits in both local and foreign currencies, current deposits in foreign currency.
As for cash supply, it increased by a growth rate of 18.47% and an increase of EGP 321.322 bn during the First Half of 2023, to record EGP 2.061 tn at the end of June 2023, compared to EGP1.74 tn at the end of December 2022.
Cash circulating outside the banking sector also recorded EGP 1.009 bn at the end of June 2023, compared to EGP 831.226 bn at the end of December 2022, achieving a growth rate of 21.41% and an increase of EGP 177.940 bn during the first Half of current year.
