CBE: Egypt paid $8.17 bn in external debit during the first Quarter of 2023/2024

The most recent monthly statistical bulletin of the Central Bank of Egypt, released only recently on its website, revealed Egypt's payment of $8.169 bn in total foreign debt premiums and interest during the first quarter of fiscal year 2023/2024, amounting to $5.810 bn in premiums and 2.359 bn in interest.
As a result, Egypt's total external debt declined by about $206 mn and 0.13% during the first quarter of fiscal year 2023/2024, registering $164.5 bn by the end of the first quarter of 2023/2024, compared to 164.7 bn by the end of the fourth quarter of the previous fiscal year.
This is due to the decline in the value of the long-term debt by 1.70% and about $2.324 bn during the first quarter of fiscal 2023/2024, recording about $134.3 bn by the first quarter of 2023/2024, compared to 164.7 bn by the fourth quarter of 2023/2024.
Short-term debt amounted to approximately $30.3 bn at the end of the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2023/2024, compared to 28.2 bn at the end of the previous fiscal quarter.
