CBE: Egypt paid $23.8 bn in external debt and interest during the first 9M of 2023/2024

The latest monthly statistical bulletin of the Central Bank of Egypt, released only a few times ago on its website, revealed Egypt's payment of $23.809 bn in total external debt premiums and interest during the first 9 months of fiscal year 2023/2024, amounting to $16.658 bn in paid installments and $7.151 bn in interest.

Egypt's total external debt declined by 2.5% during the first 9 months of 2023/2024, reaching $160.607 bn by the end of the third quarter of fiscal 2023/2024, compared to 164.727 bn by the end of fiscal 2022/2023.

Total bank deposits (other than the Central Bank) rose by 16.50% during the first 5 months of this year, registering 11.84 tn pounds by the end of May 2024, compared to 10.16 tn by the end of December 2023, with an increase of EGP 1.68 tn.

Total bank loans (other than the Central Bank) rose to EGP 6.90 tn by the end of May 2024, compared to 5.29 tn by the end of December 2023, growing by 30.5%, and registering an increase of EGP 1.61 tn during the first 5 months of this year.
