«Faisal Islamic Bank», «The United Bank», and «FABMISR» Lead the Egyptian Banking Sector in Leverage Ratio as of June 2025a
«Faisal Islamic Bank» topped the list of the best-performing banks in terms of leverage ratio, recording 13.60% as of June 2025
«The United Bank» ranked second with 13.07%, while «FABMISR» secured third place with 12.82%, «AAIB» and «KFH–Egypt» ranked fourth and fifth with leverage ratios of 12.51% and 12.36%, respectively.
«ABC», «CIB», and «Alex Bank» were also among the top 10 banks in leverage ratio, with rates of 12.10%, 11.50%, and 11.01%, respectively.
First Bank’s list of the best-performing banks in leverage ratio as of June 2025 revealed that Faisal Islamic Bank topped the ranking with a leverage ratio of 13.60% by the end of June 2025.
The ranking, which included 24 banks operating in the Egyptian banking sector, showed that 22 banks achieved leverage ratios above the sector average of 7.6% as of June 2025, according to the latest statistical bulletin from the Central Bank of Egypt.
Meanwhile, all banks successfully maintained leverage ratios above the 3% minimum regulatory requirement, applied semi-annually since 2018.
The leverage ratio reflects the relationship between Tier 1 capital after deductions, as used in the capital adequacy ratio and the bank’s total on- and off-balance sheet exposures, unweighted by risk.
It is calculated by dividing Tier 1 capital (after deductions) by total exposures (both on- and off-balance sheet, unweighted by risk). Banks are required to disclose their leverage ratios and the components of both numerator and denominator in their financial statements.
Returning to the ranking, The United Bank came second with a leverage ratio of 13.07% as of June 2025.
First Abu Dhabi Bank – Egypt «FABMISR» ranked third, posting a leverage ratio of 12.82% at the end of June 2025.
Arab African International Bank «AAIB» came fourth with 12.51%, followed by Kuwait Finance House – Egypt in fifth place with 12.36%.
Arab Banking Corporation «ABC» ranked sixth with 12.10%, while Commercial International Bank «CIB» came seventh with 11.50%.
Bank of Alexandria «AlexBank» followed in eighth place with 11.01%, while Qatar National Bank-Egypt «QNB-Egypt» came ninth with 10.93%, and HSBC-Egypt ranked tenth with 10.89% as of June 2025.
It is worth noting that all data presented in this analysis are based on the independently published financial statements of each bank as of June 2025.
