Alex Bank, FABMISR, and CIB Lead Egypt’s Private Banks in Capital Adequacy Ratio by End of June 2025
Alex Bank tops the list with a Capital Adequacy Ratio of 33.20%… FABMISR ranks second at 32.81%
CIB comes third with a ratio of 28.40%… while HSBC-Egypt and Faisal Islamic Bank secure the fourth and fifth places with ratios of 28.19% and 25.65%, respectively
QNB-Egypt, NBK-Egypt, and Crédit Agricole Egypt are also among the top 10 private banks, with ratios of 24.34%, 21.33%, and 20.42%, respectively
The First Bank list of Egypt’s top private banks by Capital Adequacy Ratio «CAR» as of June 2025 revealed that Alex Bank topped the rankings, recording a CAR of 33.20% at the end of June 2025.
The report, which included 20 private banks operating in Egypt’s banking sector, showed that 12 banks achieved a Capital Adequacy Ratio above the sector average of 18.6%, according to the latest data from the Central Bank of Egypt «CBE».
It is worth noting that private sector banks are those in which private ownership exceeds 50%, as defined by the Egyptian Ministry of Public Enterprises.
Moreover, all the banks listed successfully exceeded the minimum regulatory threshold of 12.5% set by the Central Bank of Egypt, according to their independently audited financial statements. Egyptian banks have continued to strengthen their capital adequacy levels as part of their ongoing efforts to comply with international best practices and Basel Committee standards.
The Capital Adequacy Ratio measures the relationship between a bank’s capital base and its risk-weighted assets, reflecting the institution’s ability to absorb potential losses and safeguard depositors and creditors. It is a key indicator of a bank’s financial soundness and resilience.
Returning to the ranking First Abu Dhabi Bank Egypt «FABMISR» came in second with a Capital Adequacy Ratio of 32.81% by the end of June 2025.
Commercial International Bank «CIB» ranked third, achieving a ratio of 28.40%.
HSBC-Egypt came fourth with a ratio of 28.19%, Faisal Islamic Bank ranked fifth, recording 25.65%.
QNB Egypt held the sixth position with 24.34%, National Bank of Kuwait-Egypt «NBK-Egypt» came seventh, with 21.33%.
Crédit Agricole Egypt ranked eighth, at 20.42%, EGBANK took ninth, with 19.73%.
Arab African International Bank «AAIB» rounded out the top ten, with a ratio of 19.34% at the end of June 2025.
