HDB, Alex Bank, and EGBANK Lead Egyptian Banks in Retail Lending Focus as of June 2025
HDB tops the list of banks most focused on retail lending with a concentration ratio of 48.73%, while Alex Bank ranks second with 44.11%
EGBANK takes third place with a ratio of 42.98%, followed by BDC and ABK–Egypt in fourth and fifth places, with concentration ratios of 42.96% and 34.10%, respectively
First Bank ranking of banks with the highest focus on retail financing as of June 2025 revealed that the Housing and Development Bank «HDB» topped the list with a retail lending concentration of 48.73%. The bank’s total loans to customers reached EGP 60.73 billion, of which EGP 29.59 billion were retail loans by the end of June 2025.
The ranking reflects investment trends across 25 banks operating within the Egyptian banking sector, based on their financial statements for the analysis period, specifically in terms of retail financing.
It relies on the ratio (Retail Loans / Total Customer Loans) to provide an indicator of the extent to which a bank’s loan portfolio is concentrated in the retail segment.
Returning to the list, Bank of Alexandria «Alex Bank» ranked second, with 44.11% of its total customer loans allocated to retail financing, amounting to EGP 34.44 billion, while its total customer loan portfolio stood at EGP 78.07 billion as of June 2025.
EGBANK ranked third, with a 42.98% retail loan concentration. The bank’s retail loan portfolio amounted to EGP 25.35 billion, while its total customer loan portfolio reached EGP 58.98 billion by the end of June 2025.
In fourth place, Banque du Caire «BDC»’s retail loan portfolio, valued at EGP 95.24 billion, represented 42.96% of its total customer loans, which stood at EGP 221.70 billion by the end of June 2025.
Al Ahli Kuwaiti Bank-Egypt «ABK–Egypt» came fifth, as its retail loans, totaling EGP 26.72 billion, accounted for 34.10% of its total customer loan portfolio of EGP 78.36 billion by the end of June 2025.
Bank NXT ranked sixth, with 32.22% of its total customer loans amounting to EGP 41.01 billion directed toward retail lending, its retail loan portfolio reached EGP 13.21 billion by the end of June 2025.
saib secured seventh place, with 30.87% of its total customer loans valued at EGP 78.61 billion allocated to retail lending, the bank’s retail loan portfolio amounted to EGP 24.27 billion by the end of June 2025.
HSBC Egypt came eighth, with 29.56% of its total customer loans worth EGP 60.53 billion focused on retail financing, The bank’s retail loan portfolio reached EGP 17.89 billion by the end of June 2025.
Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank-Egypt «ADIB-Egypt» ranked ninth, with a retail loan concentration ratio of 27.79%. The bank’s total customer loan portfolio stood at EGP 128.21 billion, while its retail financing reached EGP 35.63 billion by the end of June 2025.
Finally, Crédit Agricole Egypt took tenth place, as its retail loan portfolio, valued at EGP 16.35 billion, accounted for 27.62% of its total customer loan portfolio, which stood at EGP 59.17 billion as of June 2025.
