«AlexBANK», «ADIB-Egypt», and «CIB» are the most efficient private sector banks in generating returns on shareholders’ equity during H1 of 2025.

AlexBank tops the list of the most efficient banks in generating returns on shareholders’ equity with a rate of 52.21%, while «ADIB-Egypt» ranks second at 48.56%.

«CIB»secures third place with a return of 40.77%, while Suez Canal Bank and ADCB come in fourth and fifth with returns of 40.50% and 40.18%, respectively.

«HSBC», «NBK-Egypt», and Crédit Agricole are also among the top 10 private sector banks in generating returns on shareholders’ equity, with rates of 40.08%, 34.46%, and 34.11%, respectively.

According to «First Bank» list of the most efficient private sector banks in terms of return on average equity during the first half of 2025, AlexBank topped the ranking after achieving a return on average equity of 52.21%, with net profits reaching EGP 7.47 billion in the first half of 2025.

The list, which included 21 private sector banks operating in Egypt whose financial data was available for the analysis period, showed that all recorded positive returns on average equity. This reflects their success in generating net profits at varying levels, with none of them posting losses during the first half of 2025, according to the officially published standalone financial statements of each bank.

The return on average equity measures a bank’s ability to generate profits from shareholders’ equity during the analysis period. The higher the return, the more efficient the bank is in utilizing its equity to achieve strong profitability levels.

It is worth noting that private sector banks are defined as those in which the share of private capital exceeds 50%, according to data from Egypt’s Ministry of Public Enterprise Sector.

Returning to the ranking, Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank – Egypt «ADIB-Egypt» came in second, with a return on average equity of 48.56%, after recording EGP 6.04 billion in net profit during the first half of 2025.

In third place came Commercial International Bank «CIB», with a return on average equity of 40.77%, driven by net profits of EGP 33.41 billion in the first half of 2025.

Suez Canal Bank ranked fourth with a 40.50%, supported by EGP 3.08 billion in net profits during the same period.

Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank – Egypt «ADCB» took fifth place, posting a 40.18% ROAE and EGP 2.95 billion in net profits during the first half of 2025.

«HSBC» Egypt ranked sixth with a 40.08% return on average equity and EGP 9.58 billion in net profits.

National Bank of Kuwait – Egypt «NBK-Egypt» came seventh, with a 34.46% ROAE and EGP 4.13 billion in net profits.

Crédit Agricole Egypt ranked eighth, recording a 34.11% ROAE and EGP 3.53 billion in net profits.

In ninth place was Egyptian Gulf Bank «EGBANK», which achieved a 33.41% return on average equity and EGP 1.72 billion in net profits.

Finally, Emirates NBD Egypt came tenth, with a 32.34% and EGP 3.02 billion in net profits during the first half of 2025.
