Arab African International Bank Tops Fastest-Growing Banks in Deposits Over the Past 3 Years.. «ADCB» Ranks Second

Private-sector dominance continues, with 9 private banks featured among the Top 10 fastest-growing banks, versus only one public-sector bank.

Arab banking groups further strengthened their presence, capturing half of the Top 10 positions in deposit growth.

Meanwhile, National Bank of Egypt «NBE» maintained its leadership across the sector by achieving the largest absolute increase in deposit volumes over the past three years

The «First Bank» ranking of the fastest-growing banks in deposits over the last three years revealed that Arab African International Bank «AAIB» topped the list, posting a 61.3% growth rate, supported by the bank’s expansion strategy implemented by Tamer Wahid, Vice Chairman and Managing Director, along with his executive team.

Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank – Egypt «ADCB» came in second with a growth rate of 41.5%, followed by Arab International Banking Company «AIB» in third place, achieving 40.4% growth over the same period.

The ranking covered 26 banks operating within the Egyptian banking sector for which financial data were available over the past three years, it is worth noting that «ABC» and «FABMISR» recorded exceptionally high growth rates of 85.3% and 49.8%, respectively, driven by acquisition-related effects, therefore, both banks were excluded from the ranking to ensure fair comparison.

The ranking confirmed the outperformance of private-sector banks, which secured 9 out of the Top 10 positions among the fastest-growing banks in deposits over the past three years, compared to a single position held by public-sector banks.

The private banks featured in the Top 10 fastest-growing list were: Arab African International Bank, Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank – Egypt, AIB, Attijariwafa Bank Egypt, Suez Canal Bank, Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank – Egypt, National Bank of Kuwait – Egypt, Al Ahli Bank of Kuwait – Egypt, and Commercial International Bank «CIB», The sole public-sector representative on the list was Housing and Development Bank.

Among Islamic banks, Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank – Egypt «ADIB-Egypt» led the segment, with its customer deposits portfolio rising by 38.2%, reaching EGP 200.28 billion by end-2024, compared to EGP 75.80 billion at end-2021.

The data also highlighted the strong performance of Arab banking groups operating in Egypt, which accounted for half of the Top 10 fastest-growing banks in deposits over the past three years, namely: ADCB – Egypt, Attijariwafa Bank Egypt, Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank – Egypt, National Bank of Kuwait – Egypt, and Al Ahli Bank of Kuwait – Egypt, Other banking groups were absent from the Top 10.

On the other hand, The United Bank recorded the lowest deposit growth over the past three years, with a modest growth rate of 11.7%.

Nevertheless, expectations point to a notable improvement in its performance during the coming period, supported by recent administrative restructuring. Early signs of this turnaround have already emerged, as the bank ranked fifth on the «First Bank» list of fastest-growing listed banks on the Egyptian Exchange in customer deposits during the first nine months of 2025.
