«NBE», «BM», and «CIB» Lead the First Bank Depositor Confidence Index Over the Past 3 Years

«NBE» topped the First Bank Depositor Confidence Index over the past three years, followed by «BM» in second place.

Clear outperformance by the private sector was evident, with seven private banks ranking among the top 10, compared with three positions held by state-owned banks.

Foreign banking groups strengthened their presence, securing four spots within the top 10 banks.

While Islamic banks recorded limited representation, with only one bank included among the top 10.

The First Bank Depositor Confidence Index for banks operating in the Egyptian banking sector over the past three years revealed that the National Bank of Egypt ranked first after increasing its deposit portfolio by approximately EGP 2.58 trillion, reaching EGP 4.96 trillion by the end of 2024, compared with EGP 2.39 trillion at the end of 2021.

Banque Misr came in second, having expanded its deposit portfolio by about EGP 1.26 trillion over the past three years, to record EGP 2.50 trillion by the end of 2024, compared with EGP 1.23 trillion at the end of 2021.

The Commercial International Bank-Egypt «CIB» secured third place, as its deposit portfolio grew by approximately EGP 561.79 billion over the past three years, reaching EGP 967.90 billion by the end of 2024, compared with EGP 406.10 billion at the end of 2021.

The index covered 26 banks operating within the Egyptian banking sector for which financial data were available over the past three years. It is worth noting that FABMISR and ABC recorded deposit increases of EGP 181.76 billion and EGP 58.32 billion, respectively, over the same period as a result of acquisition activities; therefore, they were excluded from the index to ensure comparability.

The data highlighted the clear dominance of private-sector banks, which captured seven positions within the top 10 banks. These included: CIB, Arab African International Bank, QNB Egypt, ADIB, AIB, HSBC, and National Bank of Kuwait-Egypt.

State-owned banks secured three positions within the top 10, with the National Bank of Egypt leading the ranking, followed by Banque Misr in second place, while Banque du Caire ranked sixth.

At the level of foreign banking groups operating in Egypt, four banks featured within the top 10, namely: QNB Egypt, ADIB, HSBC, and National Bank of Kuwait-Egypt.

In contrast, Islamic banks had limited representation, with only one bank included among the top 10. Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank-Egypt «ADIB-Egypt» ranked seventh after increasing its customer deposit portfolio by approximately EGP 124.48 billion over the past three years, reaching EGP 200.28 billion by the end of 2024, compared with EGP 75.80 billion at the end of 2021.
