The First Bank ranking of the fastest-growing private sector banks operating in Egypt in terms of syndicated loans during the first nine months of 2025 revealed that Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank – Egypt «ADCB» topped the list, recording a growth rate of 77.2% during the period. Its syndicated loans portfolio reached EGP 11.34 billion as of end-September 2025, compared to EGP 6.40 billion at end-2024.
Qatar National Bank – Egypt «QNB Egypt» came in second, posting a growth rate of 60.3% during the first nine months of the year, with its syndicated loans portfolio rising to EGP 55.74 billion as of end-September 2025, up from EGP 34.78 billion at end-2024.
Meanwhile, ABK – Egypt ranked third, achieving a growth rate of 57.4% during the first nine months of 2025, as its syndicated loans portfolio increased to EGP 5.27 billion by end-September 2025, compared to EGP 3.35 billion at end-2024.
The First Bank list tracked the total syndicated loans portfolios of 19 private sector banks operating within the Egyptian banking system for which financial statements were available during the first nine months of 2025. The data showed that 12 banks recorded positive growth rates, while 7 banks experienced a noticeable decline, based on each bank’s published standalone financial statements.
The data also highlighted the strong performance of Gulf banking groups operating in Egypt, which dominated 8 positions among the top 10 fastest-growing private sector banks in syndicated loans during the first nine months of 2025. These banks are: ADCB, QNB, Al Ahli Bank of Kuwait, First Abu Dhabi Bank, Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank, Al Baraka Bank, Emirates NBD, and ABC. Other banking groups were absent from the top ten rankings.
Banks listed on the Egyptian Exchange (EGX) secured four positions among the top 10 fastest-growing private sector banks in syndicated loans during the period, namely: QNB, Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank, Al Baraka Bank, and Suez Canal Bank.
At the level of Islamic banks, both Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank and Al Baraka Bank appeared among the top 10 fastest-growing private sector banks in syndicated loans during the first nine months of 2025.
In contrast, syndicated loans declined at seven banks during the period: saib, Commercial International Bank (CIB), Egyptian Gulf Bank, Kuwait Finance House – Egypt, Crédit Agricole Egypt, Attijariwafa Bank Egypt, and Bank of Alexandria.
It is worth noting that private sector banks are defined as banks in which private capital ownership exceeds 50%, according to data from Egypt’s Ministry of Public Business Sector.
