«EGBANK», Suez Canal Bank, and Kuwait Finance House – Egypt Are the Fastest-Growing Banks in Retail Lending During the First 9M of 2025
«EGBANK« Tops the List of the Fastest-Growing Banks in Retail Lending, Followed by Suez Canal Bank
Private sector dominance.. 9 private banks rank among the fastest 10 growing banks, compared to only one public-sector bank.
Gulf banking groups secure 5 positions among the top 10 fastest-growing banks.
Islamic banks capture 3 positions within the top ten.
Listed banks claim 5 spots among the fastest 10 growing banks.
The First Bank list of the fastest-growing banks in retail lending during the first nine months of 2025 revealed that the Egyptian Gulf Bank «EGBANK» ranked first, with its retail loan portfolio surging by approximately 94.2%, reaching EGP 31.16 billion as of end-September 2025, compared to EGP 16.05 billion at the end of 2024.
Suez Canal Bank ranked second, driven by an 80.4% increase in its retail loan portfolio during the first nine months of 2025, reaching EGP 9.91 billion as of end-September 2025, up from EGP 5.49 billion at the end of 2024.
Kuwait Finance House – Egypt secured third place after its retail lending portfolio grew by around 69.7% during the first nine months of 2025, recording EGP 8.40 billion as of end-September 2025, compared to EGP 4.95 billion at the end of 2024.
The First Bank list monitored total retail lending portfolios at 27 banks operating in the Egyptian banking sector for which the required financial data were available, showing that all of them achieved positive growth rates during the first nine months of 2025.
The list highlighted a clear dominance of the private sector, with private banks occupying 9 out of the top 10 fastest-growing banks, namely: EGBANK, Suez Canal Bank, Kuwait Finance House – Egypt, Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank – Egypt, BANK NXT, saib, Al Baraka Bank Egypt, Emirates NBD Egypt, and National Bank of Kuwait – Egypt. The only public-sector bank among the top ten was Banque Misr, which ranked tenth.
At the level of Gulf banking groups operating in Egypt, they captured 5 positions among the fastest 10 growing banks, represented by: Kuwait Finance House – Egypt, Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank – Egypt, Al Baraka Bank Egypt, Emirates NBD Egypt, and National Bank of Kuwait – Egypt.
As for Islamic banks, they secured 3 positions among the top ten banks: Kuwait Finance House – Egypt, Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank – Egypt, and Al Baraka Bank Egypt.
Regarding banks listed on the Egyptian Exchange, they claimed 5 positions among the fastest 10 growing banks, namely: EGBANK, Suez Canal Bank, Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank – Egypt, saib, and Al Baraka Bank Egypt.
It is worth noting that all figures and growth rates mentioned above are based on the standalone financial statements officially disclosed by each bank as of end-September 2025.
