«National Bank of Egypt», Banque Misr, and «CIB» are the largest banks in Egypt by the end of September 2025

«National Bank of Egypt» maintains a clear lead in Egypt’s banking sector.. with Banque Misr ranking second.

The private sector captures 6 seats among the top ten, compared to 4 seats for public banks.

Foreign banking groups secure 4 seats among the 10 largest banks in terms of asset market share.

Banks listed on the stock exchange occupy 3 positions among the top ten.

Islamic banks secure a single seat among the 10 largest banks.

The «First Bank» list of the largest banks by asset market share by the end of September 2025 revealed that the National Bank of Egypt topped the list, controlling more than one-third of the banking sector’s assets with a market share of 35.21%, as its total assets portfolio reached about EGP 8.93 tn.

Banque Misr ranked second, with a market share of 16.31% of the total banking sector assets, with a total assets portfolio of about EGP 4.14 tn by the end of September 2025.

Commercial International Bank – Egypt «CIB» captured third place, with a market share of 5.32% of total banking sector assets, recording total assets of about EGP 1.35 tn by the end of last September.

The «First Bank» list of the largest banks by asset market share monitored the total asset portfolios of 29 banks operating in the Egyptian banking sector for which financial data were available by the end of September 2025.

The list revealed that the private sector captured the largest share of seats among the top 10 banks in Egypt, with private banks securing 6 positions among the top ten, namely: «CIB», «Arab African», «QNB» Egypt, «FABMISR», «ADIB», and «HSBC».

Public banks, meanwhile, secured 4 positions among the top 10 banks operating in the Egyptian banking sector, namely: National Bank of Egypt, Banque Misr, Banque du Caire, and the Agricultural Bank of Egypt.

Foreign groups operating in the Egyptian banking sector occupied 4 seats among the top ten, namely: «QNB» Egypt, «FABMISR», «ADIB», and «HSBC».

Regarding banks listed on the Egyptian Stock Exchange, they captured 3 positions among the top 10 banks in the Egyptian banking sector, namely: «CIB», «QNB» Egypt, and «ADIB».

In contrast, Islamic banks secured only one seat among the top ten, with Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank – Egypt «ADIB» ranking ninth with a market share of 1.28% of total banking sector assets.
