A recent ranking issued by «First Bank» of the top 100 lending banks in the Middle East and North Africa revealed the presence of 17 banks operating in the Egyptian market as of September 2025, including 6 local Egyptian banks and 11 banks affiliated with foreign banking groups operating in Egypt.
The ranking was based on total loan portfolios as officially reported and denominated in USD, providing a unified benchmark for comparison across banking institutions. Banks without available official financial data were excluded to ensure accuracy and methodological reliability.

«National Bank of Egypt » ranked 9th across MENA and 1st among Egyptian banks, with a loan portfolio of 91.54 USD bn as of September 2025.
«Banque Misr» secured 30th place across MENA and 2nd locally, with loans totaling 28.80 USD bn.
«Commercial International Bank – Egypt » ranked 60th across MENA and 3rd among Egyptian banks, with a loan portfolio of 10.01 USD bn.
«Arab African International Bank » came in 76th across MENA and 5th locally, with loans amounting to 5.25 USD bn.
«Banque du Caire» ranked 80th across MENA and 6th among Egyptian banks, with total loans of 4.87 USD bn.
«Suez Canal Bank» secured 100th place across MENA and 10th locally, with a loan portfolio of 2.19 USD bn.

«QNB Group» topped the regional ranking with total loans of 274.50 USD bn, while its Egyptian subsidiary recorded 8.80 USD bn, ranking 4th among the largest lenders in Egypt.
«Emirates NBD Group» ranked 4th across MENA with 164.34 USD bn, while its Egypt operations recorded 2.00 USD bn, placing 11th locally.
«First Abu Dhabi Bank Group » secured 5th place across MENA with 162.30 USD bn, while its Egypt portfolio reached 3.68 USD bn, ranking 7th in Egypt.
