«National Bank of Egypt» Dominates the Market, Accounting for Nearly Half of Egypt’s Banking Sector Loans

Near-complete stability among the top ten banks… «NBK Egypt» advances to ninth place

Banking sector financing reaches EGP 11.39 trillion by the end of March 2026, growing by 9.8%

Banks’ deposit utilization ratio for extending financing rises to 67.5% by the end of March 2026, compared with 65.8% at the end of 2025, reflecting banks’ expansion in financing activities

The «First Bank» ranking of the largest banks by market share of loans as of the end of March 2026 revealed that National Bank of Egypt topped the list, controlling nearly half of the Egyptian banking sector’s financing, with a market share of approximately 44.87% by the end of March 2026.

Banque Misr ranked second, with a market share of approximately 13.83% of total Egyptian banking sector loans by the end of March 2026.

Commercial International Bank – Egypt «CIB» secured the third position, with a market share of 4.79% of the banking sector’s financing, with a loan portfolio amounting to approximately EGP 545.90 billion by the end of last March.

The «First Bank» ranking of the largest banks by loan market share monitored the net financing portfolios of 32 banks operating in the Egyptian banking sector, for which financial statements were available as of the end of March 2026.

The ranking revealed near-complete stability in the positions of the top ten banks, with the only change being «NBK Egypt» advancing to ninth place by the end of March 2026, up from tenth place in the 2025 ranking.

The ranking showed that foreign banks secured 4 positions among the top ten banks out of a total of 17 banks included in the classification. These included «QNB Egypt» in fourth place, «FABMISR» in seventh place, «ADIB Egypt» in eighth place, and «National Bank of Kuwait – Egypt» in ninth place.

As for Islamic banks («ADIB Egypt», «Faisal Islamic Bank», «Kuwait Finance House», and «Al Baraka»), their combined market share witnessed a marginal increase, rising to 3.17% of total banking sector loans by the end of March 2026, compared with 3.15% at the end of 2025, reflecting their continued expansion and strengthened presence in the Egyptian banking market.

Net financing extended by the banking sector increased to EGP 11.39 trillion by the end of March 2026, compared with EGP 10.38 trillion at the end of 2025, recording a growth rate of 9.8% during the first quarter of 2026.

On the other hand, the deposit utilization ratio for extending financing across the banking sector rose to 67.5% by the end of March 2026, compared with 65.8% at the end of 2025, indicating the continued expansion of banks in providing financing during the recent period.

It is worth noting that all values and market shares mentioned in the above analysis are based on the standalone financial statements announced by each bank as of the end of March 2026.
