AIB, HDB lead banks operating in Egypt by financial investment growth over 3 years
Arab International Bank leads the ranking, supported by a sharp rise in financial investments over three years
Only four foreign banks rank among the top 10 out of 12 included in the ranking
15 banks exceed the banking sector’s 20.9% CAGR over the past three years
Islamic banks see limited representation, with only one among the top 10 out of four included in the ranking
Arab International Bank (AIB) led First Bank’s ranking of the fastest-growing banks operating in Egypt by financial investments over the past three years, recording a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 58 per cent.
The bank’s financial investments portfolio rose to EGP 202.36 billion at end-2025, from EGP 51.3 billion at end-2022.
Housing and Development Bank (HDB) ranked second, with its financial investments portfolio recording a CAGR of 55.58 per cent over the past three years, rising to EGP 111.63bn at end-2025, from EGP 29.64bn at end-2022.
Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank – Egypt (ADIB-Egypt) ranked third, with a CAGR of 49.38 per cent over the past three years. Its financial investments portfolio reached EGP 102.97bn at end-December, compared with EGP 30.89bn at end-2022.
ADIB-Egypt was also the only Islamic bank among the top 10, out of a total of four Islamic banks included in the ranking.
First Bank’s ranking tracked the development of financial investments portfolios at 27 banks operating in the Egyptian banking sector for which the necessary financial data were available over the past three years, from 2022 to 2025. All banks recorded positive compound annual growth rates over the period.
At the sector level, the data showed that the top 15 banks in the ranking exceeded the banking sector’s average CAGR of 20.9 per cent over the past three years, while the remaining banks recorded growth rates below this average over the same period.
As for the foreign banks included in the ranking, four secured places among the 10 fastest-growing banks by financial investments over the past three years, out of 12 foreign banks covered by the ranking. These were ADIB-Egypt, HSBC Bank Egypt, Emirates NBD Egypt and Al Ahli Bank of Kuwait – Egypt (ABK-Egypt).
The ranking also saw Egypt’s three largest state-owned banks absent from the leading positions, with National Bank of Egypt (NBE) ranking 16th, Banque Misr 21st and Banque du Caire 26th.
