Alex Bank, Banque du caire, ABK-Egypt, EGBANK, and HD Bank, Most focused on personal loans

According to First Bank list of banks prioritizing personal loan investments, Alex Bank topped the list with a 44% concentration. By the end of June 2023, the bank's total customer loans amounted to EGP59.84 bn, with a personal loan portfolio of EGP26.33 bn during the same period.

The list revealed the investment trends of 21 banks in the Egyptian banking sector, analyzing their financial data. It specifically focused on the level of personal loan portfolios, using the criterion of (personal loans / total customer loans) to provide an indicator of how much a bank's loan portfolio is concentrated in personal loans.

Banque du Caire secured the second position with 36.39% concentration. EGP 55.38 bn of its total customer loans were in the personal loan portfolio, which amounted to EGP152.20 bn by the end of June 2023.

The third position was claimed by Kuwaiti Ahli Bank's subsidiary "ABK-Egypt," with a 34.34% concentration of personal loans in its total customer loans. The size of its personal loan portfolio was EGP 13.40 bn, while the total customer loans reached EGP39.02 bn by the end of June 2023.

 EGBANK ranked fourth with a concentration rate of 25.90% during the same period.

 Housing and Development Bank secured the fifth position with a concentration of 24.43% in its personal loan portfolio valued at EGP9.91 bn, while the bank's total customer loans reached EGP40.57 bn by the end of June 2023.

ADCB Egypt claimed the sixth position with a concentration rate of 22.61% in its customer loan portfolio valued at EGP 32.48 bn, with personal loans totaling EGP7.35 bn by June 2023. Credit Agricole Egypt followed with a concentration rate of 21.93%.

ADIB Egypt ranked eighth with a personal loan portfolio valued at EGP14.17 bn, representing 21.80% of its total customer loans, which amounted to EGP65.01 bn by June 2023.

Emirates NBD Egypt stood ninth with a 21.57% concentration in its personal loan portfolio, followed by aiBANK and saib with concentration rates of 21.22% and 18.91%, respectively, by the end of the same period.

It's important to note that the values and concentration percentages mentioned in the analysis are based on separate financial statements declared by each bank at the end of June 2023.
