NBE, Banque Misr, and CIB, top banks in terms of market share of assets by June 2023end
First Bank
According to First Bank list of the largest banks operating in the Egyptian banking sector based on the size of market shares of total asset portfolios at the end of the first half of 2023, National Bank of Egypt topped the list with a market share of 35.51% of the total assets of the banking sector, amounting to EGP 4.9 tn at the end of June 2023.
Banque Misr ranked second with a market share of 19.06% of the total assets of the banking sector at the end of the second quarter of 2023. Commercial International Bank (CIB) came third with a market share of 5.76% of the total assets of the banking sector at the end of June 2023, with the bank’s total assets reaching EGP 794.68 bn at the end of the same period.
As for the fourth position, it was taken by QNB Alahli with a market share of 3.94% of the total assets of the banking sector at the end of the first half of the current year, and a total asset portfolio value of EGP 543.31 bn at the end of the same period.
Arab African International Bank ranked fifth, with its share being 3.04% of the total assets of the banking sector at the end of June 2023, with its asset portfolio reaching EGP420.12 bn at the end of the same period.
Banque du caire secured the sixth position with a market share of 2.94% of the total assets of the banking sector at the end of the second quarter of 2023, with the bank’s total assets reaching EGP 405.89 bn at the end of the same period.
First Abu Dhabi Bank – Egypt, claimed the seventh position with a market share of 2.10% of the total assets of the banking sector at the end of the first half of 2023, with its asset portfolio reaching EGP289.4 bn at the end of the same period.
Faisal Islamic Bank of Egypt ranked eighth with a market share of 1.23% of the total assets of the banking sector at the end of June 2023, with the bank’s total assets reaching EGP169.48 bn at the end of the same period, followed by Alex Bank and ADIB Egypt with market shares of 1.06% and 1% respectively at the end of last June.
It is worth mentioning that all the values and market shares mentioned in the above analysis are based on separate financial statements announced by each bank at the end of the period ending in June 2023.
