Alex Bank, EGBANK, and ABK–Egypt Are the Most Focused Private Sector Banks on Retail Financing as of June 2025
AlexBank tops the list of private sector banks most focused on retail financing with a concentration ratio of 44.11%, while EGBANK ranks second with a ratio of 42.98%.
BDC comes in third with 34.10%, while ABK–Egypt and BANK NXT secure the fourth and fifth places, with concentration ratios of 32.22% and 30.87%, respectively, as of June 2025.
The First Bank list of private sector banks most focused on retail financing as of June 2025 revealed that Bank of Alexandria «Alex Bank» topped the ranking, with 44.11% of its total customer financing concentrated in retail loans amounting to EGP 34.44 billion, while total customer loans reached EGP 78.07 billion as of June 2025.
The list highlights the investment orientations of 21 private sector banks operating in the Egyptian banking industry, for which financial data were available for the period under review specifically in retail financing. It relies on the ratio of (retail financing / total customer loans), providing an indicator of how concentrated a bank’s customer loans portfolio is in retail lending, according to the independently published financial statements of each bank.
It is worth noting that private sector banks are those in which private ownership exceeds 50%, based on data from Egypt’s Ministry of Public Business Sector.
Returning to the list, EGBANK ranked second, with a concentration ratio of 42.98%, as its retail loan portfolio reached EGP 25.35 billion by the end of June 2025, compared to total customer loans of EGP 58.98 billion for the same period.
Al Ahli Bank of Kuwait-Egypt «ABK–Egypt» secured third place, with retail loans of EGP 26.72 billion representing 34.10% of its total customer loans portfolio, which stood at EGP 78.36 billion as of June 2025.
BANK NXT came in fourth, as retail loans of EGP 13.21 billion accounted for 32.22% of its total customer loans of EGP 41.01 billion by the end of June 2025.
saib Bank ranked fifth, with retail loans representing 30.87% of its total customer loans portfolio of EGP 78.61 billion, while the retail portion amounted to EGP 24.27 billion as of June 2025.
HSBC-Egypt came sixth, as retail loans represented 29.56% of its total customer loans portfolio of EGP 60.53 billion, with retail loans amounting to EGP 17.89 billion as of June 2025.
Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank-Egypt «ADIB-Egypt» ranked seventh, with a concentration ratio of 27.79%, as its total customer financing reached EGP 128.21 billion, including EGP 35.63 billion in retail financing as of June 2025.
Crédit Agricole Egypt took eighth place, with retail loans of EGP 16.35 billion, representing 27.62% of its total customer loans portfolio of EGP 59.17 billion as of June 2025.
Al Baraka Bank ranked ninth, with retail loans of EGP 14.75 billion, representing 22.67% of total customer financing of EGP 65.08 billion as of June 2025.
Finally, Emirates NBD-Egypt ranked tenth, with retail loans of EGP 21.26 billion, accounting for 21.95% of total customer loans of EGP 96.88 billion as of June 2025.
