«NBE» Consolidates Its Leading Position, Recording the Largest Portfolio Size and the Highest Absolute Increase Over the Past 3 Years
The First Bank ranking of the fastest-growing banks in institutional deposits over the past three years revealed that Attijariwafa Bank Egypt topped the list, as its institutional deposits portfolio increased by approximately 60.1% over the past three years, reaching EGP 70.32 billion by the end of 2024, compared to EGP 17.12 billion at the end of 2021.
Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank–Egypt «ADIB-Egypt» ranked second, recording a growth rate of 58.5% over the past three years, as its institutional deposits portfolio reached approximately EGP 113.48 billion by the end of 2024, compared to EGP 28.48 billion at the end of 2021.
The Arab African International Bank «AAIB» secured third place, with its institutional deposit’s portfolio increasing by around 56.5% over the past three years, reaching EGP 397.61 billion by the end of 2024, compared to EGP 103.83 billion at the end of 2021.
The ranking covered 26 banks operating in the Egyptian banking sector for which financial data were available over the past three years.
It is worth noting that ABC Bank and FABMISR recorded growth rates of 97.3% and 66.3%, respectively, over the past three years due to acquisition transactions, and were therefore excluded from the ranking to ensure accuracy and comparability.
The data also revealed a strong performance by the National Bank of Egypt «NBE», which recorded the largest institutional deposits portfolio, in addition to achieving the highest absolute increase over the past three years, amounting to EGP 1.12 trillion.
This brought its institutional deposits portfolio to approximately EGP 1.66 trillion by the end of 2024, compared to EGP 539.75 billion at the end of 2021, reflecting the strength of its institutional customer base and its sustained ability to attract and grow large corporate deposits in the Egyptian market.
The ranking highlighted a clear dominance of the private sector, with private banks occupying 9 seats among the top 10 fastest-growing banks in institutional deposits over the past three years, compared to only one seat for state-owned banks.
The private banks included in the list of the top 10 fastest-growing banks in institutional deposits during the period under review were: Attijariwafa, «ADIB-Egypt», «AAIB», «NBK–Egypt», Bank of Alexandria, «ADCB-Egypt», AIB, Suez Canal Bank, and «QNB-Egypt».
Regarding Arab banking groups operating in the Egyptian market, they succeeded in capturing half of the positions in the list of the top 10 fastest-growing banks in institutional deposits, represented by: Attijariwafa, «ADIB-Egypt», «NBK–Egypt», «ADCB-Egypt», and «QNB-Egypt».
As for Islamic banks, Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank–Egypt «ADIB-Egypt» ranked first, after its institutional deposits’ portfolio increased by approximately 58.5% over the past three years.
