Islamic Banks Secure Only One Spot among the Top 10 Fastest-Growing Private Banks in Loans

The First Bank ranking of the fastest-growing private sector banks operating in Egypt in terms of customer loans during the first nine months of 2025 revealed that Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank – Egypt (ADIB) topped the list with a growth rate of 39.1% over the period. ADIB’s customer loan portfolio reached EGP 142.95 billion as of the end of September 2025, compared to EGP 102.74 billion at the end of 2024.

Suez Canal Bank secured second place, after its customer loan portfolio grew by around 38.5% during the first nine months of the year, reaching EGP 109.61 billion as of the end of September 2025, up from EGP 79.17 billion at the end of 2024.

BANK NXT claimed third place, with its customer loan portfolio increasing by approximately 37.7% during the first nine months of 2025, reaching EGP 44.78 billion as of the end of September 2025, compared to EGP 32.51 billion at the end of 2024.

The data also showed a strong performance by Commercial International Bank – Egypt (CIB), which reinforced its leadership within the private sector by recording the largest loan portfolio value and the highest absolute increase in customer loans. CIB’s loan book expanded by EGP 101.91 billion during the first nine months of the year, bringing the total portfolio to around EGP 491.48 billion as of the end of September 2025, compared to EGP 389.57 billion at the end of 2024.

The First Bank list covered the total customer loan portfolios of 19 private banks operating in the Egyptian banking sector for which financial data were available during the first nine months of 2025, The analysis showed that all banks under review recorded positive growth rates, based on each bank’s published standalone financial statements.

It is worth noting that private sector banks are defined as banks in which private ownership exceeds 50%, according to data from Egypt’s Ministry of Public Business Sector.

The ranking highlighted a strong presence of Arab banking groups operating in Egypt, which captured half of the seats among the top 10 fastest-growing private sector banks in customer loans. These banks included ADIB, ADCB, FABMISR, ABK-Egypt, and QNB Egypt.

As for Islamic banks, they secured only one position in the list of the top 10 fastest-growing private sector banks in customer loans. ADIB-Egypt topped the ranking with a growth rate of 39.1%, while other Islamic banks were absent from the leading positions.
