Emirates NBD tops fastest-growing private-sector banks in retail deposits, with Suez Canal Bank close behind

The First Bank ranking of the fastest-growing private-sector banks operating in Egypt in retail deposits during the first nine months of 2025 revealed that Emirates NBD – Egypt ranked first, posting a growth rate of 49.5%. The bank’s retail deposits rose to EGP 68.91 billion as of end-September 2025, compared with EGP 46.10 billion at the end of 2024.
Suez Canal Bank came in second with a growth rate of 48.6% during the first nine months of the year, as its retail deposits increased to EGP 31.39 billion by end-September 2025, up from EGP 21.13 billion at the end of 2024.
Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank – Egypt ranked third, recording a 43% growth rate during the first nine months of 2025, with retail deposits reaching EGP 124.15 billion as of end-September 2025, compared with EGP 86.80 billion at the end of 2024.
The ranking highlighted the continued outperformance of Commercial International Bank (CIB) as the largest private-sector bank in terms of absolute increase and total portfolio size. CIB’s retail deposits rose to EGP 613.58 billion by end-September 2025, compared with EGP 537.33 billion at the end of 2024, reflecting a growth rate of 14.2% and an absolute increase of EGP 76.25 billion.
First Bank monitored the retail deposit portfolios of 20 private-sector banks operating within the Egyptian banking system for which financial statements were available during the first nine months of 2025. The data showed that 19 banks achieved positive growth rates, while one bank recorded a slight decline, based on each bank’s standalone published financial statements.
It is worth noting that private-sector banks are defined as banks in which private ownership exceeds 50%, according to data from Egypt’s Ministry of Public Business Sector.
The data also reflected the strong performance of Arab banking groups operating in Egypt, which dominated 7 positions among the top 10 fastest-growing private banks in retail deposits during the first nine months of 2025. These banks were: Emirates NBD, Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank, Kuwait Finance House, Al Ahli Bank of Kuwait, Al Baraka Bank, National Bank of Kuwait, and First Abu Dhabi Bank, while other banks were absent from the top ten rankings.
Regarding Islamic banks, they secured three positions among the top 10 fastest-growing private-sector banks in retail deposits during the first nine months of 2025. Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank – Egypt ranked third with a 43% growth rate, while Kuwait Finance House and Al Baraka Bank ranked sixth and eighth, recording growth rates of 36.6% and 26.6%, respectively.
