CIB Holds the Largest Portfolio, While Faisal Islamic Bank Records the Lowest Retail Lending Volume
The First Bank list of the fastest-growing private-sector banks operating in Egypt in terms of retail lending during the first nine months of 2025 revealed that Egyptian Gulf Bank «EGBANK» topped the ranking, achieving a growth rate of 94.2% over the period. The bank’s retail loan portfolio reached EGP 31.16 billion by the end of September 2025, compared with EGP 16.05 billion at the end of 2024.
Suez Canal Bank «SC Bank» ranked second, recording a growth rate of 80.4% during the first nine months of the year, as its retail loan portfolio rose to EGP 9.91 billion by the end of September 2025, up from EGP 5.49 billion at the end of 2024.
Kuwait Finance House-Egypt «KFH-Egypt» came in third, posting a growth rate of 69.7% during the first nine months of 2025, with its retail financing portfolio reaching EGP 8.40 billion by the end of September 2025, compared with EGP 4.95 billion at the end of 2024.
The ranking highlighted the continued dominance of Commercial International Bank (CIB) as the largest private-sector bank in terms of portfolio size, with retail loans amounting to EGP 89.37 billion by the end of September 2025. Meanwhile, Faisal Islamic Bank of Egypt recorded retail financing of EGP 4.05 billion by the end of September, making it the private-sector bank with the lowest retail lending volume.
The First Bank list tracked the total retail lending portfolios of 19 private-sector banks operating within the Egyptian banking system for which financial data were available during the first nine months of 2025. All banks included in the analysis recorded positive growth rates, according to each bank’s published standalone financial statements.
It is worth noting that private-sector banks are defined as those in which private capital accounts for more than 50% of total ownership, according to data from Egypt’s Ministry of Public Business Sector.
The data also showed strong performance by Arab banking groups operating in Egypt, which captured half of the positions among the top 10 fastest-growing private-sector banks in retail lending during the first nine months of 2025. These groups included: Kuwait Finance House, Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank, Al Baraka Bank, Emirates NBD, and National Bank of Kuwait, while other groups were absent from the top ten.
At the level of Islamic banks, three institutions secured positions among the top 10 fastest-growing private-sector banks in retail lending during the first nine months of 2025. Kuwait Finance House-Egypt ranked third with a growth rate of 69.7%, while Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank-Egypt and Al Baraka Bank ranked fourth and seventh, with growth rates of 56.8% and 35.7%, respectively.
