Direct financing declines at one bank during the first nine months
The First Bank list of the fastest-growing private-sector banks operating in Egypt in direct corporate financing during the first nine months of 2025 revealed that Suez Canal Bank topped the ranking, achieving a growth rate of 74.6% during the period. Its direct corporate financing portfolio reached EGP 34.49 bn by the end of September 2025, compared with EGP 19.75 bn at the end of 2024.
In second place came the Arab International Banking Company (SAIB), with a growth rate of 58.3%, as its direct corporate loan portfolio rose to EGP 11.79 bn by the end of September 2025, compared with EGP 7.45 bn at the end of 2024.
The Commercial International Bank (CIB) ranked third, recording growth of 50.9% during the first nine months of 2025. Its direct corporate loan portfolio reached EGP 214.77 bn by the end of September 2025, up from EGP 142.33 bn at the end of 2024.
The First Bank list monitored the total direct corporate financing portfolios of 20 private banks operating in the Egyptian banking sector for which financial data were available during the first nine months of 2025. The data showed that 19 banks achieved positive growth rates, while one bank recorded a notable decline, according to each bank’s published standalone financial statements.
The data also highlighted the strong performance of Gulf banking groups operating in Egypt, which captured six positions among the top ten fastest-growing private-sector banks in direct corporate financing during the first nine months of 2025. These banks are: Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank – Egypt, FABMISR, ABK – Egypt, Emirates NBD – Egypt, ADCB, and Kuwait Finance House – Egypt, while other banking groups were absent from the top ten.
Banks listed on the Egyptian Exchange secured four positions among the top ten, namely: Suez Canal Bank, SAIB, Commercial International Bank, and Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank.
At the level of Islamic banks, Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank and Kuwait Finance House appeared among the top ten fastest-growing private-sector banks in direct corporate financing during the first nine months of 2025.
Conversely, one bank recorded a noticeable decline in its direct corporate financing portfolio. HSBC’s portfolio fell by 8.7% during the first nine months of 2025, reaching EGP 23.13 bn by the end of September 2025, compared with EGP 25.33 bn at the end of 2024.
It is worth noting that private-sector banks are defined as banks in which private ownership exceeds 50% of total capital, according to data from Egypt’s Ministry of Public Business Sector
