«The National Bank of Egypt», «Banque Misr», and «CIB» are the largest lending banks in Egypt by the end of September 2025

«The National Bank of Egypt» seizes the top of the sector… and Banque Misr follows it.

The private sector occupies 7 seats among the top ten, compared to 3 seats for public banks.

Banks listed on the stock exchange hold 4 positions among the top 10 lending banks.

Gulf groups capture 4 seats among the top ten.

Islamic banks secure a single seat among the top 10 lending banks.

The «First Bank» list of the largest banks by loan market share by the end of September 2025 revealed that the National Bank of Egypt topped the ranking, controlling more than one-third of the banking sector’s loans, with a market share of 44.87%, as its loan portfolio reached about EGP 4.38 tn.

Banque Misr ranked second, with a market share of 13.83% of total banking sector loans, as its loan portfolio reached about EGP 1.35 tn by the end of September 2025.

The Commercial International Bank – Egypt «CIB» secured third place, with a market share of 4.63% of total banking sector loans, as its loan portfolio reached about EGP 452.11 bn by the end of last September.

The «First Bank» list of the largest banks by loan market share monitored customer loan portfolios at 29 banks operating in the Egyptian banking sector for which financial data were available by the end of September 2025.

The list also revealed that the private sector succeeded in controlling the majority of seats among the top 10 lending banks in Egypt, with private banks securing 7 positions among the top ten, including: «CIB», «QNB – Egypt», «Arab African International Bank», «FABMISR», «ADIB», «NBK – Egypt», and «Suez Canal Bank».

Public sector banks, on the other hand, secured 3 positions among the top 10 lending banks in Egypt, namely: National Bank of Egypt, Banque Misr, and Bank of Cairo.

Regarding banks listed on the Egyptian Exchange, they secured 4 positions among the top ten, namely: «CIB», «QNB – Egypt», «ADIB», and Suez Canal Bank.

Gulf banking groups operating in the Egyptian banking sector captured 4 positions among the top ten, including: «QNB – Egypt», «FABMISR», «ADIB», and «NBK – Egypt».

Meanwhile, Islamic banks captured a single position among the top ten, as Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank – Egypt «ADIB» ranked eighth, with a market share of 1.39% of total banking sector loans.
