CBE: EPOS soars to 940,000 machines by end of 2022

The Central Bank of Egypt revealed, in a recent report, that the number of electronic points of sale increased by 1582.3% over 7 years, to reach 940 thousand points of sale by the end of 2022, compared to 55.876 thousand points of sale by the end of 2015.

The total number of POS at the end of 2021 reached 740 thousand points of sale, while at the end of 2020 their number reached about 394 thousand points of sale, while their number at the end of 2019 reached about 130 thousand.

The total number of POS at the end of 2018 was  72,503 thousand points of sale, and at the end of 2017 was 68,630 thousand points, while their number at the end of 2016 was about 64,349 thousand points.

It is worth noting that the Central Bank indicated, in its latest statistical bulletin, that the number of ATMs increased to 21,975 thousand machines, compared to 19,014 thousand machines by the end of December 2021.

The number of debit cards in banks increased to 23.838 million cards by the end of December 2022, compared to 21.551 million by the end of 2021, an increase of 2.287 million cards and a growth of 10.61% during 2022.
