CBE: Bank loans soar to EGP4.204 tn, by Jan-2023

The monthly statistical bulletin of the Central Bank of Egypt, issued on the bank’s website, revealed that bank loans (other than CBE) increased to EGP4.204 tn at the end of January 2023, compared to EGP4.012 tn at the end of 2022, achieving a growth rate of 4.78%, and an increase of EGP191.937 bn.

Total loans for government rose to EGP1.676 tn by the end of January 2023, compared to EGP1.604 tn by the end of 2022, achieving a growth rate of 4.51%, and an increase of EGP72.286 bn.

Government loans are divided into loans in local currency and loans in foreign currency, as government loans in foreign currency jumped by 24.70%, recording EGP786.955 bn at the end of January 2023, compared to EGP 631.095 bn at the end of 2022, an increase of EGP 155.860 bn.

As for government loans in local currency,  fell to EGP889.901 bn at the end of January 2023, compared to EGP973.475 bn at the end of 2022.

Non-governmental loans rose to EGP2.527 tn by the end of January 2023, compared to EGP2.408 tn by the end of 2022, achieving a growth rate of 4.97%, and an increase of EGP119.651 bn.

Non-governmental loans are divided into loans in local currency and loans in foreign currency, government loans in local currency increased by 1.90%, to reach EGP2.098 tn at the end of January 2023, compared to EGP 2.059 tn at the end of 2022, an increase of EGP39.147 bn.

Total non-governmental loans in foreign currency increased from EGP349.046 bn at the end of 2022 to EGP429.550 bn at the end of January 2023, achieving a growth rate of 23.06%, and an increase of EGP 80.504 bn.
